The Gouldian Finch is, by almost any measure, the most spectacularly coloured small bird on earth. Native to the tropical savannas of northern Australia, it combines a vivid green back, cobalt-blue rump, purple breast, golden-yellow belly, and a boldly coloured head — red, black, or orange depending on the individual — into a palette so extraordinary it seems almost impossible for nature to have produced. It is one of the most prized birds among aviculturists and wildlife artists worldwide.

Each figurine is individually hand-carved from premium basswood and hand-painted colour zone by colour zone with artist-grade care — the Gouldian’s complex, multi-zone plumage is among the most technically demanding paint work in the entire Wooden Islands collection.
